8 out of 10 companies increase homework - what should you be aware of?

March 11, 2020 was the day when we were magically forced into the home office with Netflix in the background, and when the frustration over poor internet became a real reality.

March 11, 2020 was the day when we were magically forced into the home office with Netflix in the background, and when the frustration over poor internet became a real reality. The vast majority of Danish companies acted quickly on the transition to hybrid work. We adjusted processes, optimized systems and moved a lot of the company's data into the cloud.

But the best summary of the pandemic must be that for the company's transition to the hybrid workplace, it has been something like building the plane while flying. So now that many countries are lifting their restrictions, several companies are in the process of making a final decision on what the framework should be for daily operations - and in Denmark we largely choose models with hybrid work, where employees operate at the crossroads between to be able to work at home and in the office. In fact, according to Dansk Industri's latest survey, 8 out of 10 companies choose to increase the possibilities for home working.

The aim is greater flexibility, productivity and employee well-being - but even if the dream is good, there are a number of challenges that you, as a manager, will have to deal with.

So what should you consider before upgrading your hybrid workplace?

Managing a hybrid workforce that spans office, home and other networks is an inherently complex process – especially when it comes to ensuring your security solutions cover all these access points.

Therefore, it is not all companies that have their hands in the air at the idea of more homework for the staff. Dansk Industri's investigation points to, among other things that one of the reasons for the lack of incentive to introduce more homework concerns IT security.

Alone during the pandemic is 47% of all surveyed individuals in an international Deloitte survey were cheated by phishing attempts, while they have been working from home. This is worrying because once a single employee account has been compromised, hackers have the ability to scour your systems to find your sensitive data. At the same time, your employees are often extra exposed at home because they are on private networks that do not necessarily meet the security requirements that are necessary to keep your company safe. If your employees have not been given a device by you, you as a company cannot count on the security level being high enough on their own, private device to protect you when they log into the company's databases and systems.

How to tackle today's security threats

Considering the scale of today's security threats, it's important to implement technology solutions that can protect all of your access points—regardless of where your employees log in from. But building security is often a complex and costly task that calls for experts rather than generalists. Unfortunately, the IT employee in a regular company is often more generalist than expert when it comes to IT security.

This means that the task can quickly become a heavy burden for your IT team, and it can interfere with other important initiatives such as to drive the general digitization of the company forward.

In addition, it is a demanding task for your team to keep up to date with changing security threats – and the solutions that are developed to remedy them. Which your team must also count on finding time for in the future, after your IT security has been upgraded so that it can also be maintained.

So is it worth the struggle to secure the possibility of a hybrid workplace - and what is the easiest way to get there?

We take your IT security seriously, so you can increase employee well-being

According to Dansk Industri, the possibility of more homework is absolutely worth the effort. It has gone on and has become a big piece in the work of retaining employees. It is therefore a good idea to find a business partner who prioritizes safety.

At Supporters, we take responsibility for your IT security in our full-service outsourcing concept. We take on the task as an external IT department, and always have up-to-date experts ready to sit and assist you. We also help with e.g. to implement Microsoft 365, so that you are guaranteed an intelligent solution that ensures that collaboration between your employees is both problem-free and secure.
