As a professor of architecture, he considers Copenhagen his personal laboratory and has dedicated his life to understanding and improving urban life through studies of Copenhagen's streets.

Jan established the architectural firm Gehl - Making Cities for People with Helle Søholt back in 2000, together they have transformed urban spaces around the world by placing people at the center.

With offices in both Denmark and the USA and a diverse team of employees from all over the world, they have created ground-breaking and human-centred urban environments.
