Withdrawal of the systems takes place over several dates throughout the year and the first ones have "end of life" already in less than a week on January 10. Microsoft uses 4 different types of withdrawals.

Transition from "Mainstream" to "Extended support" means that updates that were previously free for the program are now charged. The exception to this is security-related updates.

"End of support" and "End of servicing" are broadly the same, but "End of servicing" is only relevant for products that have not already received an expiry date from Microsoft. At these two, Microsoft will end free security updates for that program. You should be aware of these programs, as a lack of security updates can be the cause of data breaches and cyber attacks.

Finally, there are the programs that are phased out completely and Microsoft thereby sends in "Retirement".
